Banana Island Youth Association - BIYA is looking for a volunteer ideally for a 2-year period to support its development project. The BIYA is a community-based organization registered with the Sierra Leone Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children's Affairs. The volunteer will provide advice to the BIYA and Banana island Guest House management committee and staff with respect to effective project management, completion of project infrastructure, relationships with donors and investors, and identifying training needs and finding ways to satisfy them. The Banana islands are an ecologically fragile and extremely bio-diverse chain of 3 islands (5 sq. miles) with monkeys, iguana, rare birds and myriad flora. Until recently the islands have been protected but oil and gas exploration and foreign fishing vessels are now threatening the islands' ecology. The volunteer will raise awareness among inhabitants about the islands' unique nature and the link between sound environmental management and sustainable eco-tourism.
