IES ALUMNI An increasing number of well-educated women and men are needed in environmental science. This is evidenced by the increase in the number of agencies, corporate divisions, and consulting firms established to deal with environmental problems. The expansion is apparent within government, especially at the local and state levels; in research foundations; consulting firms; and in industry (research, product planning, marketing, plant development, legal affairs, operations, public relations, and government relations). The internship program of the Institute places students
in all of these settings. The Institute also provides considerable assistance
in locating employment, and has enjoyed an excellent record in making such
placements. As part of the instructional program, representatives from
industry, government, and consulting firms are brought to campus for seminars,
classroom instruction, and discussions about the work they do and the challenges
they face in doing that work.
