DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Requirements for the Master of Environmental Science degree are as follows: 

  • A minimum of 22 hours in IES core courses,
    a minimum of 13 hours in specialty electives, and 
    a minimum of 6 hours practicum- internship-thesis credit, for 
    a minimum of 41 total hours.


  • A course in ecology at the undergraduate level is required, which may be taken either prior to admission or during the M.En. degree program. This requirement can be met at the graduate level with Botany 501, Introduction to Plant Ecology. 


  • At the end of the spring semester, a comprehensive examination which integrates the core course material. This examination must be passed before a student can initiate practicum-internship-thesis activities. Students who fail this examination must take it again before the fall semester of the subsequent academic year. This examination may be taken only twice. 


  • A practicum, internship or thesis, including an oral public defense and a formal written report.
