CORE CURRICULUM

The core curriculum provides students with a common frame of reference, a background in the nature of environmental problems, and approaches used to solve them.  Students develop a deeper respect and appreciation of people, terminology, and theory by working with students from various disciplines on a broad range of topics. The 22-hour core curriculum includes an orientation field trip, a survey of principles and applications of environmental science, environmental measurements, environmental methodology, environmental statistics, environmental impact assessment and risk analysis, policy-making and administration, environmental analysis and modeling, and a Public Service Project.

The Public Service Project is a year-long effort by teams of several students that attempts to solve a current problem facing some community organization or governmental unit in the vicinity. It is regarded by many students as one of the most important parts of the core curriculum.
