AREAS OF CONCENTRATION AT IES

The areas of concentration enable an IES student to pursue a particular field of study in greater depth.  The minimum number of credit hours required to complete a concentration is 14. There are 16 areas of concentration (listed at left) which cover both the social and natural sciences. Each area was developed in response to student and faculty interest and the availability of suitable coursework. Students are encouraged to select their area of concentration by mid-spring semester of the first year at IES.

If these areas of concentration do not meet a student's individual needs, special programs may be developed in close cooperation with the student's major professor and the IES Deputy Director for Academic Affairs. An outline detailing a unique area of concentration must be filed with the IES and approved by the student's Executive Committee.
