FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION
TYPES
OF AID AVAILABLE
It is in our mutual interest that each student is fully funded. Graduate
teaching and research assistantships are available through the Institute
of Environmental Sciences, other academic departments and offices such as
the library or the residence hall program. These assistantships include a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend. Other sources of support
include grants-in-aid (waivers of tuition) from the Graduate School,
work-study funds and scholarships through the Development and Alumni
Affairs offices of Miami University.
IES awards a limited number of graduate
teaching and research assistantships each year, and we also have two research-funded assistantships - as manager of the atmospheric monitoring station and another as a county stream monitor. The staff of IES constantly searches for new assistantship opportunities in departments all over campus. In recent years, most IES students
have received some form of financial aid, but it is not guaranteed, and
the level of support varies. Early application is strongly urged. In
addition, second-year students choosing an internship may be placed with
cooperating federal, state or local government agencies, research
organizations, consulting firms or industry and, with few exceptions, earn
a monthly stipend.
