Public service projects,
required of all first-year students, mix students from different
backgrounds and put them in substantive contact with faculty members,
government officials, and community leaders. The IES curriculum
explicitly provides for and recognizes the benefits of these
interactions. Team members gain experience in learning how to give and
receive information, begin and end a long-term project, and manage team
members with diverse backgrounds. IES graduates are therefore well-equipped to work
in and lead interdisciplinary teams.
The menu at left defines
the concept of a public service project, introduces
the people involved in the project, walks through the course of a typical
project from beginning to end, highlights the benefits
of the project to the client and students, and finally covers the costs
involved in a project. You can also review current
team projects and review titles of former projects.
